Modernist mid century ceramic vase from Denmark. Lovely shape and glaze. The vase, 5 3/4" tall, is decorated with off white matte glaze with a black graphic design and subtle strokes of black around the body of the piece. It is signed but I don't know the maker. Very lovely piece and in fine condition.
Gorgeous miniature ceramic variegated glaze vase from Denmark, unsigned. The glaze design on this small piece is fantastic with myriad gradation of sea greens and blues and small specks of contrasting colors. It is unsigned, but a truly exceptional and well crafted piece. It is 5 1/4" tall and in excellent condition.
This black mid century ceramic vase has subtle gradations of color and while basically matte, there's a discrete semi-glossy abstract design overlaying it. The vase stands 10 1/2 inches tall and is in excellent condition. It is marked as depicted but I am not sure of the maker. It was attributed to Margaretenhohe but I am not sure that is correct. Regardless, it is a lovely piece and would work well in any modern decor.
This mid century ceramic vase is by Lu Klopfer, Germany. Ludwig Klopfer (1924-1977) produced much of his work for the Kunsttöpferei Johann Lipp in Mering,Germany. He was the grandson of Johann Lipp, who founded the pottery in the middle of the 19th century. In the 1940s, Klopfer became the art director and the modern shapes and new glaze-techniques of the 50s, 60s and 70s are the result of his creative work. His work is often unsigned, and he used a series of numbers and sometimes letters to mar ...click for details
Mid century ceramic vase with sgraffito decor by H.H. Korting of Germany. The textured linear pattern plays well against the rounded, tapering surface of the vase. Very attractive piece in excellent condition, it is 9 1/2 tall and signed as depicted on the base.
Wonderfully depicted piece of ceramic wall art by noted Hungarian artist Pal Ferencs. The magical tree has branches of fish and seated beneath is a woman holding a jug - I don't know what the symbolism is, but someone has suggested to me that the fish represent the church which was repressed during the Communist era. In any event, it's a lovely piece with a wonderful palette; 8 1/2 in diameter; 1 inch high and signed as depicted. ...click for details
Beautifully executed tile by artist Pal Ferenc. The abstract harpist has what appears to be a serpent emerging from his or her neck.
Great rich palette. This one is unsigned but attributed based on the style (see item #2067). There is a tiny chip on the top of the tile in the rear so not viewable when hanging. It measures 8 x 8 and could be hung or displayed on an easel stand. Pal Ferenc, born in 1914 trained as a painter in the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts but worked as a ceramic artist from ...click for details
This ceramic tile piece is starkly beautiful and reminiscent of a Pre-Raphaelite woman or from the later arts & craft period both of which advocated for less frivolous art and truth to nature. The flat blocks of color are distinctive, but even more so are the protruding eyes of both the woman and the fish (see photos) and the pebbles embedded in the surface of her robe.
This piece is in a new frame but maintains the original paper backing with sticker and faint artist's signature. ...click for details
Lively large ceramic wall tile by Helmut Schaffenacker a prolific German ceramic artist
known for his highly abstracted objects and his wall tiles/plaques. His wall art is typically associated with horses, fish and other nature themes. This very early piece (1950s) echoes the Color Field painting style popular in the 1940s/50s with its flat angular blocks of color. The piece has a very dynamic nature and is executed in a style not unlike cloisonne enamel with its separate cells of color in t ...click for details
Wonderful Livia Gorka bowl with an unusual shape and characteristic abstract design. The bowl has a rounded triangular shape decorated in a swirling orange and tan pattern; the inside is done in a teal semi-gloss glaze. It's in wonderful condition and is 7 inches tall and about 24 1/2 inches in circumference around the top. Great decorative piece and possibly made for export based on the signature.
