| Wonderful pair of sterling and pearl earrings by studio jeweler, Christian Schmidt. They are 1 7/8" inches long and one inch wide at their widest point. With screwbacks as appropriate, these could be converted to pierced earrings if desired. Signed on the inside and in excellent condition. Schmidt is one of the jewelers featured in Marbeth Schon's book "Modernist Jewelry, 1930-1960." From Minnesota, he exhibited at the renowned Walker Art Center in 1955 and won several prizes in his short career. From Schon's book:"He was one of twelve jewelers whose work was selected for exhibition at the Brussels Worlds Fair....he exhibited in numerous one man and group shows throughout the country. He gave up jewelry making shortly after his book Encounter with Art was published in 1969 and moved to Alaska where he died at a relatively young age." | |||||||
