| Lively large ceramic wall tile by Helmut Schaffenacker a prolific German ceramic artist known for his highly abstracted objects and his wall tiles/plaques. His wall art is typically associated with horses, fish and other nature themes. This very early piece (1950s) echoes the Color Field painting style popular in the 1940s/50s with its flat angular blocks of color. The piece has a very dynamic nature and is executed in a style not unlike cloisonne enamel with its separate cells of color in this case delineated by clay borders. In very fine condition, there is a small chip on the upper right corner edge, not viewable when hung. There is some crazing of course but no damage to the image itself. It is 8 1/8" by 18 1/4" and quite heavy. | |||||||
