| This ceramic tile piece is starkly beautiful and reminiscent of a Pre-Raphaelite woman or from the later arts & craft period both of which advocated for less frivolous art and truth to nature. The flat blocks of color are distinctive, but even more so are the protruding eyes of both the woman and the fish (see photos) and the pebbles embedded in the surface of her robe. This piece is in a new frame but maintains the original paper backing with sticker and faint artist's signature. Pal Ferenc, born in 1914 trained as a painter in the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts but worked as a ceramic artist from 1962-1988. He did commissions for public spaces in Budapest and he exhibited in Hungary, Germany, France and elsewhere. This piece is 12 5/8" x 6 3/4" and signed in pencil on the rear as pictured. Excellent condition and wonderful piece. | ||||||||||
